Orange juice concentrates are difficult application due to the amount of pulp in it with its high viscosity. Pulp would jam and possibly destroy a mechanical gear type positive displacement flowmeter which are sometimes used in this application. In addition, the high sugar content makes frequent cleanings necessary on systems running juice concentrate.

Advantage and challenge
The sampler system, using a Supmea SUP-LDG electromagnetic flow meters, pulled a certain amount of product every 50 gallons. Given the high degree of repeatability of Supmea SUP-LDG electromagnetic flow meters, a certain number of pulses is expected from the electromagnetic flow meter during each sample. If there was a variation from the normal count, the system automatically shut down and a new brix reading was taken.
Solution
SUP-LDG electromagnetic flow meters with its simple design allows material such as juice and pulp to pass through it.
